Black Britons
I was surprised to read the complaint from Mrs.
Harvey in the last issue of the Berkshire Family
Historian regarding the so-called ‘political
article’ about ‘Black Britons’
published in the December issue. I would like to
make two observations. Firstly, the journal is
not limited to pure genealogy — hence its
title — family history does not exist in
isolation. Secondly, as the article pointed out,
the history of working men and women, as well as
Black Britons, is also often hidden. If nobody
writes about them they will remain so. I hope the
journal editor will continue to be unblinkered in
the choice of articles to be included in future.
